Taking Stock

A feature documentary about Clive Stillerman, a shopkeeper-philosopher from South Africa. The film follows Clive as he navigates the conflicted relationships with his family, employees, customers, and filmmaker-son.

The film is available now on iTunes, Amazon, Vimeo, and wherever else you enjoy movies. Go to https://vimeo.com/ondemand/takingstock/250369824

Johannesburg, California

The film spends a week in a Californian ghost-town called Johannesburg, named after the city in South Africa. During his time there, the South African filmmaker sets up a parallel between these distant namesakes, by talking with the locals about origin, destiny, and problematic African/US assumptions.

Shot as a pilot, we're now in the process of developing it as a series which journeys to small towns around the USA with names from other parts of the world.
